FAQ
-
Who are you?
We are a group of North Huntingdon residents who feel the Norwin community could be improved by adding a bike trail network.
-
I didn't know a group like this existed...
We first came into existence around October 2022.
Since then we’ve been working to build community support for trails and build a strong foundation for our organization so that we can sustain our future trails for the long-term.
We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and we are 100% volunteer run.
-
What does this group do?
Our mission is to:
Advocate for trails with local, county, and state government
Participate in the infrastructure planning, construction, and ongoing maintenance work
Help secure funding for trail development
Bring volunteers who are ready to help and build trails
Promote trail usage and beautification
-
Where will the trails be?
We’ve been adding single-track mountain bike trails in Braddock’s Trail Park and are considering other locations as well.
For shared-use paths (paved or crushed limestone), our long-term goal is to connect downtown Irwin north to the Westmoreland Heritage Trail in Trafford and south to the Great Allegheny Passage.
That will take a while, so in the short-term, we’re exploring smaller segments of these routes close to Downtown Irwin as candidates for our first shared-use trail.
No route has been secured and there are no construction plans today. We’re building support and raising funds to commission feasibility studies.
